Main objective

The Green Computing Task Force facilitates information sharing, and coordinates activities within the EGI Community concerning lowering the environmental impact of infrastructure operation and usage. The TF was established by the EGI-ACE project in 2021, and then restructured in 2024 for the GreenDIGIT project.

Within the updated merit the TF maps the landscape of green computing activities in EGI, captures good practices for green computing from the federation members and develop best practice guides, self assessment frameworks and recommendations for digital compute providers for lowering environmental impact.

Activities

  • Map the landscape of environmental friendly computing within EGI
    • Continue the work started in EGI-ACE Green Computing Task Force
  • Support EGI members on how to lower environmental impact
    • Policy recommendations
    • Technical recommendations
    • Technical solutions
    • Training
  • Lower the environmental impact of EGI (without degrading the scientific impact)
    • Collect environmental impact metrics from sites
    • Develop workload optimisation algorithms that consider these metrics
    • Implement the algorithms in HTC, AI, Cloud/Container
  • Build partnerships on the topic with ESFRIs

GC TF Composition

The Task Force is open for any EGI member or partner to join. There is no limit on the number of members.

Duration
